CRENEO's Innovative Design Approach: The WKS Group Environmental Statement

Revolutionizing Digital Publications with a Touch of Analog

The WKS Group, known for its commitment to environmental protection, wanted to make its environmental statement primarily available as a digital publication. CRENEO took this as an opportunity to create a unique design that would bridge the gap between the analog and digital worlds. The main material of the WKS Group being paper, CRENEO decided to use it as the conceptual framework for the new environmental statement.

CRENEO developed symbolic and elaborately designed paper collages by hand for each chapter of the environmental statement. These collages were then photographed and used as key visuals. The design team used Adobe Illustrator to create the illustrations and linear graphics. The result is an informative environmental statement that presents all relevant content of three companies on almost 90 pages in a structured and attractive manner.

The environmental statement is divided into an image and facts section. The most important key figures are displayed in front of the image section to provide the viewer with the positive core indicators at a glance. The key visuals create a striking substructure within the two information groups. A well-thought-out concept, a stringent structure, a lot of white space, and surprising headlines present the past and future activities of the company in the field of the environment in an appealing way.

One of the main challenges in creating this design was the creation of the key visuals. The design team had to find motifs that would create a connection to the environment and form the basis for the respective chapters of the environmental statement. These environmental symbols were made of paper collages cut out by hand and then photographed with a matching play of light and shadow.

This design by CRENEO is a testament to the team's innovative approach and commitment to pushing the boundaries of design. The WKS Group's environmental statement is not just a digital publication, but a work of art that beautifully combines the analog and digital worlds. It is no surprise that this design won the Platinum A' Design Award in 2019, a recognition given to world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative designs that contribute to societal wellbeing.
